CIOB Green Building Gold Certification

CIOB Green Building Gold Certification

The award was for two of the company’s new paints - the Nippon Paint 3 in 1 Medifresh and Weatherbond Algaeguard, launched in 2013.

The CIOB Green Mark Award is accredited by and affiliated to the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore, Council of Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (Netherlands), Green Building Council (Singapore) and the Central Environment Authority (Sri Lanka). “We are honoured and thrilled to be the first and only paint in Sri Lanka to be recognized as an eco-friendly paint product in the Gold category, setting a new industry standard,” said Nippon Paint Lanka General Manager Thusitha Premaratna.

The two award-winning paints were launched in 2013 and won the prestigious environment award ‘Environmentally Preferred Paint’ Green Label awarded by Singapore Green Labelling Scheme for ensuring green technology and products in 2014.   “In less than two years, Nippon Paint has been recognized locally and internationally by top Asian building and construction industry bodies for our advanced technology and true commitment towards the environment and its safety,” he said. This year’s  award aims to help the public identify environment-friendly products that meet stringent eco-standards specified by CIOB  and  to encourage eco-consumerism as well as to identify the growing demand for greener products in the market. It also hopes to encourage manufacturers to design and manufacture with the environment in mind.

“As a brand making a constant effort to safeguard and preserve the environment, Nippon Paint wishes to share this prestigious award with all Sri Lankans, while pledging to stay true to their commitment towards the environment, as we continue to grow from strength to strength,” said Assistant General Manager Sales and Marketing Nemantha Abeysingha.

In Sri Lanka, the Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB) is an assessing and accrediting body of this certification. It is affiliated to many professional construction bodies in Sri Lanka and overseas. The Green Mark is endorsed by the Central Environment Authority of Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment (SL) and the Ministry of Housing and Samurdhi (SL) and the Chartered Institute of Builders (UK) and the Green Building Council of Singapore.
